From R4,500Questions we get asked
How much does DStv installation cost in Cape Town?
A standard single-view installation runs from R600 to R1,200. That covers the dish, mounting, cabling and decoder setup. Multi-room installations, difficult roof access and long cable runs cost more, and we tell you that in the quote rather than on the day.
How long does installation take?
Most installations are done in two to three hours, including dish mounting, decoder connection and signal optimisation. Extra points and awkward access add time.
How do I fix no signal on my DStv?
Check the cable is seated at both ends and that the decoder is on the right satellite first. If the error persists it is almost always the dish having drifted out of alignment, or water in the LNB. Both need a meter to fix properly, which is what we come out with.
Why does my DStv lose signal when it rains?
That is rain fade on a signal that was only just strong enough to begin with. A correctly sized and properly aligned dish has enough headroom to ride out Cape Town weather. If yours drops every time the wind turns, the install was marginal.
Can I use one decoder for multiple TVs?
You can watch the same channel on a second TV off one decoder. To watch different channels in different rooms you need Extra View, which is a second decoder linked to the first. We can set either up.
Can I use my old dish for a new decoder?
Usually yes, if the dish is the right size, sound, and still properly aligned. We check the bracket and the LNB while we are there and tell you honestly if it needs replacing rather than replacing it by default.
What size dish is best for Cape Town weather?
For most of the metro a standard 80cm dish is fine. Properties that are exposed, in the deep south, or that catch a lot of wind do better on a larger dish, because the extra headroom is what stops the picture breaking up in bad weather.
Do you install DStv during load shedding?
Yes. Alignment is done on a battery-powered signal meter, so most of the work does not need mains power. We do need power at the end to boot the decoder and confirm the channels, so we plan around the schedule.
Do you install extra view setups?
Yes, including running the cable to the second room properly through the roof or in trunking rather than trailing it along a skirting board.
Can you mount my TV and connect DStv at the same time?
Yes, and it is usually cheaper to do both in one visit. We wall mount the TV, run the cabling out of sight and connect the decoder in the same appointment.
